My Teaching Philosophy
As a teacher my role is to empower, encourage and inspire the children and young people in my care to achieve their full potential. I am motivated by the power of education to transform not only the lives of individuals, but our communities and our world.
I endeavor to create and maintain a safe, respectful culture in my classroom for an environment conducive to effective learning for all. Developing strong relationships with students and their families is both a priority and a privilege, and I enjoy being a part of a school community. I use a positive, strengths-based and person-centered approach to classroom and behaviour management. I encourage students to accept age-appropriate responsibility, build respectful relationships and learn the skills they will need for success in school and life beyond. I am passionate about encouraging a love of learning in my students. I strive to provide access to a high-quality curriculum with consideration of the school context and respect for my students as individuals. Considered use of assessment deepens my understanding of my students learning needs, and informs differentiated instruction across all curriculum areas. Providing real world examples, use story telling and technology are important in creating well-planned, dynamic and engaging lessons. I am familiar with a range of modes of communicating, creating and assessing in response to the increasing diversity of students. My students are the centre of my work, and the knowledge and relationships I develop inform both my practice and on-going professional learning. I enjoy opportunities to learn new skills, techniques and bring these into the classroom, as well as modelling the life long learning I encourage in my students. |
